Garrison NY
Constructed between 1959 and 1961, Dragon Rock, the home and studio of famed designer Russell Wright at Garrison, New York, is a shining example of the modernist movement in architecture. The home was designed by Leavitt, Henshell and Kawai and was integrated into its man-made landscape, a former quarry site Wright had named Manitoga.
Russell Wright was a key figure in the modern movement of design in the 1940s and 1950s. The simplicity of Leavitt, Henshell and Kawai’s design reflects Wright’s own ideals as reflected in his tableware and furniture.
Today Dragon Rock is home to the Manitoga Foundation which, through tours and educational programs, strives to preserve the legacy of Russell Wright and the landscaped environment that was so much a part of his life at Dragon Rock.
In preparation for future restoration projects, the Pokorny firm prepared a detailed Conditions Assessment and Recommendation report for the windows and doors of the home and studio including a detailed database of window/door typologies as well as the condition assessment.
